Sure, you can travel to Paris and spend your time gawking at the Eiffel Tower, or the Arc de Triomphe, and I get it….I’ve been there too. But there are other, somewhat institutions like La Maison Rose, that I feel are also necessary to visit. The kind of places that just pop up out of nowhere as you turn a corner, the unexpected yet delightful little spots that even after you leave, tend to stick with you the most.
Our itinerary for our first few days in Paris was full to the brim of the regular hot spots, but to spice things up a little because I live dangerously like that, I threw in a few of my favourite spots that don’t appear on the red hop-on-hop-off bus routes. Tim and I ventured up to the top of Montmarte to do a lap through the Sacré-Cœur and say a quick prayer, but it was on our descent down the mountain that I made sure we stopped of at this pretty little place. You would have seen it a million times before, I’m sure of it, but it sits on the corner of one of the prettiest streets in Montmarte and the pastel pink exterior makes me smile as soon as I see it peek through the side street. It’s currently under renovation and I’d love to know how it turns out in the end… how much of it will stay as it always has been or what the future for this little maison holds.
Whilst we were visiting however, we saw a young girl was there trying to get her mum to take photos of her in front of the pink building like every other person in the area (present company included). Unfortunately it appeared mum wasn’t getting the shot that she wanted, and she threw a good old tantrum in the street including stomping off and crossing her arms in front of her body whilst she scowled in her mothers direction.
I feel the need to write her a little letter, in case she’s sitting at home googling pics of La Maison Rose feeling resentment about not getting the picture she wanted during her visit to France.
To The Young Girl at La Maison Rose who was Incredibly Unimpressed with Your Mums Photography Skills….
Girl, I feel your pain. I’ve been there. Only by myself, so try not to be so hard on your mum. You’re doing your best to not look like an idiot in a sea of people and your mum just isn’t holding up her end of the bargain. I can see how frustrated you are and how much you want the damn shot to be perfect. You’ve probably planned it for months, as soon as you knew you were visiting. Does your mum get it? Of course she doesn’t….I bet she is like my mum and still types a text with one finger. Don’t worry, you’ll come back here I promise. And by that time you’ll bring your well trained Instagram husband with you who will sort out the shots and you’ll have plenty of options to choose from and the all will be good in the world. Try not to sweat it in the mean time, we’ve all been there and trust me… we all eventually return to get it sorted.
